mental
- To go mental is to lose your temper in a big way: 'She'll go pure mental when she sees that phone bill.' Another version of this is to throw a mental. Someone who is wild, unstable, or given to extravagant losses of temper may be called a mental or mental case: 'A gang a mentals got on the bus an widny pey their ferr.'
storm damage
- A local version of 'a few slates missing', i.e. an implication that someone is not right in the head: 'Ah wouldny pay too much attention to what he tells ye. There's a fair bit of storm damage there.' Also used in adjectival form: 'C'moan oot a here. This guy's storm-damaged.'
