- piece
-
A term that covers any sandwich or even a single slice of bread spread with something: "The
wean wants a piece an jam." "Ah'm fed up wi corn beef on ma pieces." If a child asks for a piece and the person asked finds there is only bread but nothing to put on it, the child may be offered a piece an breid.
A piecebox or piecetin is a container in which a worker or a schoolchild carries his lunch: "Aw naw! Ah'm away withoot ma piecebox!"
The phrase put her on a piece an eat her is a terribly unromantic suggestion often shouted at kissing couples, demonstrating local contempt and distrust for public displays of passion in which football and inebriation are not involved.
