- totty
-
A local word for a potato: "Gie's a baked totty an chili." To say that someone is no the clean totty is to suggest that he is involved in dishonest activities. Presumably this is a comparison to a potato that still has dirt sticking to it.
A totty-peelin accent or voice is one considered posh or affected: "She jist puts on that totty-peelin voice when she answers the phone."
A totty scone is the local term for a potato scone: "Ah'll just have one of your totty scones cold, wi a wee bit butter on it."
A woman wearing clothes that emphasise her plumpness is often compared to a bag of totties: "Ah'm lik a bag a totties in this dress noo."
