scoof A slang word meaning to steal, or take charge of something that seems to lack an obvious owner: "When Ah came back fae the lavvy some ratbag hud scoofed the Safeways bag Ah left under ma seat." To scoof an empty house is to break into it and strip out everything of possible value, such as radiators, pipes, cables, etc: "These flats wi the boarded-up windies have aw been scoofed long since." pochle A pochle is any dishonest contest or business transaction: "Aye an yer Christmas Draw's nuthin but a pochle every year!"
