Used as a slang term for the head in such phrases as out ma box which means very drunk or incapacitated by drugs. If something does your box in this means it is beyond your powers of understanding: "Miss, they irregular verbs are pure daein ma box in; could ye no read us a story?"

Parts of the body often feature prominently in informal or popular language, especially the face, the nose, the bottom and the naughty bits... This makes sense, as these are items close to basic needs and feelings. The Patter is no exception to this, although not particularly developed as far as the sexual field is concerned - perhaps due to Scottish puritanism?
